    • Congratulations to Marquis @ Prince

Congratulations to Marquis @ Prince who won the Final of the Golden Jubilee Corona Mini-League Cup with a 5-4 win over The Vale in what turned out to be one of the closest, hardest fought and exciting matches in the recent history of the South East London Pool League.

Commiserations to The Vale team – it was a shame there had to be a winner and a loser.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone involved with the League and all readers and visitors to this website.

The Final will take place on Monday 6th December 2021 at 8.00pm - Marquis @ Prince v The Vale.

Although not currently a regular league venue, it is eligible to host the final having been the temporary home venue for the Smeta A team in the group stages, and this has been confirmed with the League President and Treasurer, who both refereed semi-final matches, and with the Captain of Smeta A.

The semi-final draw has taken place for the Golden Jubilee Corona Mini-League Cup, and the matches will take place next Monday, 29th November. The matches will be played at neutral venues and League Officers will attend to referee the matches.

    • 2021 INFORMATION LETTER

Welcome to the restart of the South East London Pool League and Good Luck to all teams in our one-off competition for Autumn 2021 in which we mark both last year’s Golden Jubilee of the League and the pandemic which has prevented us from playing for over 18 months.

Welcome to the 2021 South East London Pool League Golden Jubilee Corona Mini-League Cup!

All e-mail contacts should have received an opening e-mail with the information about the competition and fixture schedule that is repeated in this letter for ease of reference. The matches will comprise the usual NINE frames, six singles and three pairs, and will follow the usual League Rules

Each venue will receive two letters – one for the Captain to read and share with team members, and one for the Pub/Club Manager/Steward to retain. Venues with two teams will get three packs (only two venues for this competition). With the letters for the Captains, I also enclose FIVE copies of the Match Results Sheets which should be sufficient for each team.

NB; Please remember that we require ALL results from BOTH teams by e-mail WITHIN 48 HOURS of the completion of matches to enable us to get League Tables updated and circulated promptly.

    • South East London Pool League Set To Restart (sh, 24.8.2021)

The South East London Pool League is set to restart competition in the next few weeks (hopefully by early October) following its long hiatus due to Covid-19.

The Secretary, Simon Hooberman, and Assistant Secretary, John Dellafera, have visited all surviving 2020 venues and spoken to quite a number of players from various teams over the last few weeks and everyone has been keen to get thinks moving. Plans are currently being put in place and more information will be provided as soon as those plans have been finalised.

The League was suspended in March 2020 and, having been founded in 1970, was not able to mark its Golden Jubilee during the year because of the pandemic. It is hoped that that can still be marked in some way during the coming season.

    • Greetings from South East London Pool League (sh, 17.3.2021)

      Dear All,

I hope everyone has been keeping safe and well, and of course Covid free. I am sure that, by now, some of you have had your first Covid jabs, as have I.

It seems quite incredible to think that a year has elapsed since we had to suspend the activities of the pool league and that there is still no absolute certainty about if and when we might be able to resume although there is a roadmap out of lockdown which, if it is achieved, suggests that we may be in a position by around the end of June to start considering how we go forward.

Looking back at the e-mail to suspend the league sent a year and just over two hours ago, below, it does seem quite remarkable that we talked then about the suspension being “at least until after Easter”. Of course, you may think that I meant Easter 2020 when I said that, but I am comforted by the fact that I never actually said which Easter!

My thanks must go to those people who have kept in touch, if only occasionally, during the year. There has been some contact, albeit not a lot. Fortunately, I have been kept busy as the nature of my work means that it has continued to be in demand from my clients – the main difference has been getting used to horrible virtual meetings rather than going out to in person meetings but somehow, like so many others, we’ve coped with that. I appreciate that many of you may not have been so lucky in terms of work etc over the last year. You have my sympathy.

Back on the pool front, when the pubs were open back in the summer, John Dellafera and I did go round all our venues at least once and in some cases twice to talk to them about when and how they might have been able to resume competitive pool, but then the second wave of Covid reared its ugly head and put the kibosh on that. At that time, there were just three venues that were possibly up for hosting some competitive pool but nothing came of it.

I have been meaning for some time to send an e-mail to everyone to check in and let you know we were still here but kept putting it off. But I felt that the anniversary of the league suspension would be a good time to do it.

Stay safe everyone! Hopefully, we may be in a position to consider a resumption this summer if we’re lucky.

      Best wishes,

      Simon
