    • Postponement of league fixtures

      The League joins millions of people all over the world in expressing its sadness and deepest sympathy to the Royal Family following the passing last Thursday of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, and I am sure that everyone in the League will share in that sentiment.

      In view of the fact that the State Funeral of Her Majesty will be held next Monday, 19th September 2022, and that that day will now be a Bank Holiday, the League Chairman has agreed a proposal that all League fixtures due to be held that evening (League week 9) should be postponed. Please see below for how the Calendar for the remainder of the season is being restructured including a new date for the week 9 fixtures (Duke of Edinburgh v Conquering Heroes, Prince of Wales v Smeta @ Horns, The Sultan v The Kings Mitcham, Void v Sultan A).

      There is one other change to be announced here - the Sultan A team are changing their home venue with immediate effect to the Hand in Hand, 61 New Park Road, SW2 4EN. This venue is just a few doors along from the Sultan, going away from Brixton Hill and the pub manager's name is Mel. There are four home League fixtures to come for Sultan A, starting this evening, and these will all be played at the Hand in Hand, along with any home Knock Out Cup fixture that Sultan A may have when the draw is made.

      Here is the adjusted calendar for the remainder of the season;

      Matches due to take place in League weeks 10-14 will take place as scheduled from Monday 26th September to Monday 24th October. The changes will commence the week after that as follows;

      Monday 31st October: Officers and Captains Meeting at the Prince of Wales at 7.00pm followed by the Semi-Finals of the Pairs Knock Out competition which involves players from Duke of Edinburgh, The Sultan and Smeta @ Horns.

      Monday 7th November: This is now the date when the League week 9 matches will be played as listed above.

      Monday 14th November: Singles Quarter Finals and Semi-Finals - please note that there is one outstanding match from the Mini-Competitions before the Quarter Finals (Matthew Harrison v Eamonn Staunton) which will be played on this same evening commencing at 7.30pm. Venues and Schedules for these matches will be circulated nearer the time.

      Monday 21st November: Knock Out Cup Quarter Finals.

      The Knock Out Cup Semi Finals and Final and the Singles and Pairs Finals will then take place as originally scheduled between Monday 28th November and Monday 12th December.

      There are two other postponed League fixtures that are still to be rescheduled as far as I am aware which are as follows; The Sultan v Sultan A (week 7) and Smeta @ Horns v Duke of Edinburgh (week 8). I would be grateful if the Captains of teams in these matches could liaise with each other to reschedule these matches and let me know when they will be played.

      If anyone has any queries on these changes please let me know. I hope these changes between 31st October and 21st November do not inconvenience any participants in any of the relevant matches.

      Kind regards,

      Simon Hooberman

    • Governors Cup 2022

      GOVERNORS CUP 2022

      Monday 4th July 2022

      VENUE – HORNS TAVERN

      40 Knights Hill, West Norwood, London, SE27 0HY

      Please ensure your venue is represented in what is one of our most important events of the year.

      Please note the following;

      This is a simple knock out competition, one player per league team with registration on the night NOT LATER than 8.00pm.

      This competition is open only to the Manager, Steward, or, if he/she does not wish to play, a bona fide member of the bar staff - venues with two teams in the league may enter two bona fide members of the bar staff.

      The draw will be made just after 8.00pm and matches will commence immediately.

      The competition will be on a single frame knock out basis with the final as best of 3.

      Table fees for each frame will be covered by the League for this competition.

    • Captains Cup

      The venue for this season's Captains Cup will take place on Monday 25th April, commencing at 8.00pm.

      As always, the competition will be a straight single frame knock out with a best of 3 final.

      The venue for the Captains Cup will be the Prince of Wales in Lyham Road and I would be grateful if participants could arrive by 7.50pm to confirm their entry.

      Packs of papers for the season as a whole including fixture lists etc will be handed out that evening as will the entry forms for the Singles and Pairs knock out competitions.

      The following week is a Bank Holiday and the week after that (9th May) will see the first round of league fixtures. Unfortunately, in the end, we are down to seven teams which means that each week one team will have no match (known as void). For advance information and so that you all know which teams will be involved, the first set of league matches are as follows;

      Duke of Edinburgh v Smeta @ Horns

      Prince of Wales v Sultan A

      The Kings Mitcham v Conquering Heroes

      The Sultan v Void

      Good luck for the season to all teams.

      Kind regards,

      Simon

    • Season start

      Dear All,

      I am now in a position to provide them after needing a couple of weeks more than planned establishing some information. There are also a couple of Bank Holiday weekends coming up which will interrupt the start of the season.

      We will not start now until after Easter which is Monday week, 18th April. The Captains Cup will be held the following Monday, 25th April and the venue for that will be announced next week. Fixture lists, contact details, team sheets etc will be handed out that night. Monday 2nd May is another Bank Holiday so league matches themselves will commence on Monday 9th May and I should be in a position to announce the week 1 fixtures in a week or so.

      I can confirm that we are down to 8 teams for the new season so anything any of us can do in the coming months to boost that for 2023 will be greatly appreciated.

      I will be in touch again in a week or so and look forward to seeing everyone soon.

      Kind regards,

      Simon

    • Season 2022

      A number of people have been asking when pool will be starting following the delays earlier in the year due to Covid / Omicron. Apologies for the delay in the start of the season, due mostly to some other health issues affecting some key people.

      I am now in a position to announce the start of the season. I will shortly be e-mailing Captains etc to call the Annual General Meeting that needs to be held at which we will be confirming as much of the detail as possible. That will be held this month.

      I am currently targeting Monday 4th April as the start date for competition in the League's 2022 season. I hope we will be able to keep to that. Look out for further news on that in the coming weeks either from me or from your Captains.

      I look forward to seeing people in the weeks ahead as the season progresses.

      League Secretary
