SOUTH EAST LONDON POOL LEAGUE
Est. 1970

Join the South East London Pool League

DO YOU LIKE TO PLAY POOL ON A REGULAR BASIS? OR ARE THERE PLAYERS IN YOUR PUB WHO DO? AND CAN YOU AND/OR THOSE PLAYERS COMMIT TO MONDAY EVENINGS FOR MATCHES HOME AND AWAY WITH THE LATTER INVOLVING TRAVEL UP TO APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES?

The South East London Pool League is always looking to recruit new teams or new players for our existing teams.

Please note, the League Rules are similar to Pub Rules – we do not exactly follow either World or EPL Rules.

The South East London Pool League has been running since 1970. Our membership currently includes Teams representing Pubs and Social Clubs in a triangle roughly ranging from Kennington to Streatham and Upper Norwood. The League structure is flexible and thus easier to incorporate new Teams.

Our system of receiving results and circulating key information is by e-mail and through this website and all teams are requested to provide a team e-mail address. Our website contains all the key details and regular updates. We also ensure that Teams and Landlords/Landladies receive all important information by hand when necessary.

The League is run by elected Officers and Team Captains (or their representatives) meeting at various times throughout the year with bonus points awarded to encourage team representation.

So, what can you expect from participating in our League? At the very least, a boost to your Monday night trade! Your Team will have up to 8 or 10 home League games a season (depending on the number of Teams in your Division). In addition, each team is entered into our annual Knock-Out Cup competition, and there are also various other competitions throughout the season.

We're hopeful you will also enjoy joining an established community which is about to celebrate its Golden Jubilee in 2020 – many of our teams' players have been involved in the League for many years and there is a real sense of camaraderie across our membership. Some of our players also get involved at other levels, for example the Greater London County Pool Association – one of the players in our title-winning team last season is pictured on their home page.

Membership Requirements

A Pool table and a Pool Team, ready and committed to play regularly on Monday evenings, HOME and AWAY! All Team competitions are played on the basis of 6 singles and 3 pairs frames, so we recommend a squad of 9 or 10 players to ensure a full turnout for each match.

The Pool table must be well-lit and well-maintained, marked with a baulk line and black ball spot, and you must have a rest and spider available on match nights. Green baize is preferred but different colours are admissible with suitably coloured balls.

Membership Costs

Current annual subscriptions for each team are £100 for one team or £180 for two teams from the same venue, payable annually on registration. This covers the costs of entrance to the League and Knock-Out Cup competitions, as well as other competitions such as memorial Trophies for important people in the League’s history, Trophies for Winners and Runners-Up in all competitions, and, of course, League running costs. Additional fees are payable (a few weeks into the season) to enter Singles and Pairs knock out competitions (currently £6 for each competition or £10 per player to enter both competitions).

Home Team players or Landlords are expected to meet the table costs for all frames in League matches (but not Cups, which should be shared although this stipulation is not always followed), and it is also expected that the Landlord / Landlady, or his/her staff, or others linked to the Home Team, will ensure that food is made available after the Singles frames at home League games – it is not expected on other nights but some venues sometimes make some food available.

League structure

The League is currently built around a Division size of 6 or 8 teams, playing each other home and away either once or twice during the season depending on exact number of teams in each division, which is determined by the League’s Administration team when registrations have all been received. We currently have 1 Division of 11 teams for the current season.

If you are interested in joining us, hearing more, or just having a chat with either Simon Hooberman (Secretary) or John Dellafera (Assistant Secretary,), then please contact us via the League e-mail address or by telephoning us on 07958 242612 (Simon) or 07882 652234 (John). The new League season usually begins around the end of January and we normally aim to take all Team subscriptions, new and old, at or soon after the Annual General Meeting which is generally held a few weeks before the start of the season on a date notified to teams.

If you have any questions please visit our Frequently Asked Questions page or Contact us.

We look forward to hearing from you and to welcoming you into the League.

Best regards.

Yours sincerely,

Simon Hooberman,
League Secretary.
