SELPL Golden Jubilee 2020

The South East London Pool League was founded in Lambeth Town Hall in 1970 so 2020 will mark the League’s Golden Jubilee. This will be a remarkable achievement given changes in that time to people’s drinking habits and to operations of pubs nationally and also within our area which, between them, have resulted in fewer venues having pool tables and fewer people going out drinking and wanting to participate in regular pub games.

During the course of the coming year we hope to introduce a History of the League page to this website and information on the Roll of Honour over those 50 years setting out the lists of winners of our competitions as far back as our current records will allow. We don’t think we have any team left in the league that was not only there at the start but has also been with us every year of our existence but we do have one player in the league who can claim to have played in the league for over 40 years – but he is the son of the League’s founder!

Naturally, we are intending to mark the League’s Golden Jubilee in some way during 2020. Watch this space!
