#SELPOOL Summer Events
As always, we will be running three summer events on Mondays in August for those who do wish to play some pool during the holiday season. This is in line with the information set out in the Season Calendar circulated with the paperwork at the start of the season.
More specific details of each tournament will follow nearer the time, but here is the initial basic information to be passed on to those players who may be interested. As always, these tournaments will be open to anyone who is in the venues on the evenings concerned, not just League registered players.
Monday 4th August - Ten Shot Crush at Smeta Club.
Monday 11th August - Blackball Rules Competition at Prince of Wales.
Monday 18th August - Scotch Pairs at Streatham Vale Sports and Social Club.

#SELPOOL League update
The week 12 #SELPOOL League Results and Table have now been uploaded to the website following last Monday's matches.
Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond anyone's control, the match between Prince of Wales and Hand in Hand had to be postponed on Monday. This means that both teams now have two postponed fixtures to play.
I shall be making recommendations for playing postponed fixtures in the near future.

#SELPOOL Joe Farrell Pairs Trophy update
Unfortunately, Mini-Comp 1 in the Joe Farrell Pairs Trophy did not go ahead on Monday 23rd June as a majority of the players involved were not satisfied that the table was playable. A new date and venue for this Mini-Comp will be circulated in due course. Officers have inspected the table at the venue concerned since the aborted Mini-Comp, and consider that, although there is a slight roll and the lighting is not perfect, two matters that were already known to the League, the table is playable and League matches at the George Canning for the rest of the season must go ahead as planned.
Following the conclusion of the other Mini-Comps, the draw for the Quarter Finals, currently due to be played on Monday 6th October, is as follows;
Winner Mini-Comp 1
Match 3 v Winner Mini-Comp 1 Match 4
Thomas Rushmer & David Alexis (Marquis of Lorne) v Kevin Dempsey & Paul Meek (Conquering Heroes)
Rodel Daquioag & Lewis McCartney (Duke of Edinburgh) v Rhys Owens & Gary Owens (Smeta All Starz)
Derrick Brown & Frankie James (Prince of Wales B) v Noah Halperin & Antonio Stephens (Duke of Edinburgh)

#SELPOOL Joe Farrell Pairs Trophy
#SELPOOL Pairs Draw 2025
This year we are keeping the mini-competition format for the early rounds of the Pairs competition on a similar basis to the Singles competitions.
We have 24 entries and the competition will run as follows.
On Pairs 1 in the calendar, Monday 23rd June, there will be 4 mini-competitions (known as mini-comps) (each with 6 pairs) (so four current League venues will need to be used) which will work as follows:
Match 1 = Pair 1 v Pair 2
Match 2 = Pair 3 v Pair 4
Match 3 = Pair 5 v Winner Match 1
Match 4 = Pair 6 v Winner Match 2
All matches will be played on a best of 3 basis. The winners of Matches 3 and 4 in each of the mini-comps will not play the mini-comp final on this evening but will automatically qualify for the Quarter Finals on Monday 6th October where they will meet each other. The winners of each of those will reach the Semi-Finals to be played on the same night with the winners advancing to the Final which will take place on Monday 17th November. The draw is continuous so the Semi-Finals will be Winner Mini-Comp 1 v Winner Mini-Comp 2 and so on.

We have 47 entries and the competition will run as follows:
On Singles 1 in the calendar, Monday 16th June, there will be 8 mini-competitions (known as mini-comps) (so ALL current League venues bar one will need to be used) (7 with 6 players and 1 with 5 players) which will work as follows:
Match 1 = Player 1 v Player 2
Match 2 = Player 3 v Player 4
Match 3 = Player 5 v Winner Match 1
Match 4 = Player 6 v Winner Match 2
Match 5 = Winner Match 3 v Winner Match 4
Or
Match 1 = Player 1 v Player 2
Match 2 = Player 3 v Player 4
Match 3 = Player 5 v Winner Match 1
Match 4 = Winner Match 2 v Winner Match 3
All matches will be played on a best of 3 basis. The winners of Match 5 in each of the 6-player mini-comps and match 4 in the 5-player mini-comp will automatically qualify for the Quarter Finals on Monday 29th September. The winners of each of those will reach the Semi-Finals to be played on the same night with the winners advancing to the Final which will take place on Monday 17th November. The draw is continuous so the Quarter-Finals will be Winner Mini-Comp 1 v Winner Mini-Comp 2 and so on.

RIP Brian Willey
It is with much sadness that we inform you of the death on Wednesday morning after a short illness of Brian Willey, Captain of the Prince of Wales B team, Treasurer of the League for several years, and, more recently, also the Vice-Captain of our League's team in the GLCPA Interleague.
Brian had been involved in the League as far back as I remember, which is some 25 years. I recall that, when I first met him, he was involved in the team that played at the Prince Regent in Dulwich Road and, when they got rid of their pool table, he switched to the Tulse Hill Tavern. When the Tulse closed he switched to play for the Smeta Club, the team now known as Smeta All Starz, and then finally switched again to join the team that is now Prince of Wales B.
He had played a big part in our League and will be sorely missed.
We send our sincerest condolences to Brian's family and friends. At the behest of the Chairman, this evening's Officers and captains meeting was postponed by two weeks and, on the suggestion of the President, all Captains are being asked to hold a minute's silence in Brian's memory at their matches on Monday 14th April.
As always, details of Brian's funeral will be circulated when we know them. RIP Brian.

Welcome to the 2025 season
This season we have 11 teams and are reverting to a similar structure to the one we used with 11 teams in 2023. The season commences this coming Monday evening, 3rd February, as always with the Captains Cup, and all the paperwork for the season is ready and will be issued on the night.
An e-mail was sent a few days ago to Captains and Vice-Captains about the Captains Cup competition. This year it is being held at Smeta Club, 10 St. Matthew's Road, SW2 1NH. Normally, it would have been held at Horns Tavern, as the home venue of last year's winner Chris Owens, but the Horns is under new management and is closed temporarily for refurbishment. It's due to open later on next week but too late for the competition so we gave Chris the choice of alternative venue this year as a one-off change to our regular pattern.
League matches commence the following Monday, 10th February. Given that we have 11 teams, there will be one team each week that does not have a match - and in the fixture list we describe that as Void. Here, for information, is a list of the opening match week's fixtures to be played on 10th February (home teams first);
Duke of Edinburgh v Void
Hand in Hand v Prince of Wales
Prince of Wales B v Marquis of Lorne
George Canning v Conquering Heroes
Streatham Vale Sports & Social Club v Smeta Elite
Smeta All Starz v Horns Tavern (we have given Horns Tavern away fixtures in weeks 1 and 2 just in case the refurbishment works overrun and the pub is later opening than planned).
If there are any questions do get in touch. All the information and documentation needed for the season is in the packs that will be issued on Monday.
Good Luck to all players and all teams!

Annual General Meeting
Dear All,
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a good Christmas and New Year, have taken the opportunity to recharge your batteries and are ready for the 2025 pool season.
I hereby confirm and give notice that the Annual General Meeting of the South East London Pool League will take place next Monday evening, 13th January 2025, at 8.00pm at Streatham Vale Sports and Social Club, The Pavilion, (next to 57) Canmore Gardens, SW16 5BD.
Copies of Agenda, Minutes of last AGM, along with a Financial Statement (not the end of year position as income and expenditure linked to Presentation Night will need to be added) and Secretary's Report, will be available at the meeting.
Captains are reminded that entry forms for the 2025 season were distributed at the November Officers and Captains Meeting and should be handed to me at the AGM along with your entry fees for the season. Please do everything in your power to ensure that this happens as my mobility issues are still ongoing and I can't chase around after you as I have done in the past.
I would also like to remind everyone that the Presentation Night will take place on Saturday 18th January 2025 at Smeta Club, 10 St. Matthew's Road, SW2 1NH. Some copies of the flyer will also be available at the AGM.
We are still aiming for Monday 3rd February for the start of the season and will confirm that as soon as we can. It does, of course, require everyone's cooperation in submitting paperwork and entry fees.
I look forward to seeing you on Monday.
Kind regards,
League Secretary
